Out of School
It doesn't all have to be sport fitness and competitive, there can be a different way.
Sport and movement can be so much more than just competitive games. What we know is that 80% of all children leave sport by aged 16. The question we ask, is what would happen to those figures if we gave sport back to children? Could we reverse them if we made sport about them?
So through Active Future we are making sport and movement about the children. We are constantly thinking about innovative ways to engage people in movement and keep them engaged. So far we have been really very successful.
At present we have two offerings for our Out of School Projects and these are our ad hoc themed play events and holiday events:
Ad Hoc Themed Play Events
Unless you have no experience of children or live under a rock you will have heard of the games Fortnite and Call of Duty. Well these games are causing our children to sit for hours on end glued to a screen. So we thought how about re-creating the games for real and getting the children playing. So we did and we tested their movement patterns to find that children were moving between 8000-12000 steps in around 2.5 hours. To this end we now offer these events in various locations around every 2-3 weeks. They are always a sell out and are hugely oversubscribed.
In essence the children get to re-create the games and play Fortnite but in the fresh air and running around.
We are now offering our Fortnite and Call of Duty events as part of a holiday week programme. These can be either a stand alone product or be combined with one of The Futsal Partnership Champion's league Weeks or Street Games weeks. They are a full day and include an early drop off and late pick up if needed. An example itinerary is as below:
- Hide and Seek Blocky
- Call of Duty
- Hide and Seek Tag
We are now able to offer all children the opportunity to borrow our Nerf Guns to participate.
